The Vice-President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has donated a high-powered ultrasound diagnostic system to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hospital.

The donation of the medical item was in response to a request from the management of the hospital for assistance from the Vice-President.

The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, presented the equipment on behalf of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

The Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, received the item on behalf of the management and staff of the hospital.

He expressed the gratitude of the staff and management of the University to the Vice-President for her kind gesture.

Prof. Boampong, who was excited by the donation, said the equipment had come at the right time, noting that such support was critical to delivering quality care.

For his part, the Central Regional Minister disclosed that the donation was to help bring comfort to patients at the hospital and urged the hospital staff to maintain the machine.

He indicated that the UCC hospital had expanded to receive not only students and staff, but also people beyond the University community.

Mr. Eduamoah  explained that it had always been the wish of the Vice-President to contribute to the growth of the hospital and pledged her continuous support to the health sector.

He also assured the management of the hospital of more of such donations in the future.

The Director of University Health Services (UHS), Dr. James Kojo Prah, welcomed the support, describing it as a timely intervention that would enhance healthcare at the facility.

He said the swift response from the vice-president showed her kind and sympathetic nature and her desire to see the health of the people improve.

Dr. Prah assured the donor that the equipment would be put to good use to prolong its lifespan.

The Director appealed for the establishment of an Intensive Care Unit for the care of critically ill patients.

He also urged other well-endowed individuals and organisations to assist the hospital.
