Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has officially opened the 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ghanaian Academic and Research Network (GARNET) at the School of Medical Sciences Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast.

In his address, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong said “The University of Cape Coast fully associates itself with the vision of GARNET to build and operate a world-class network, infrastructure and services to link all Ghanaian research and education community to support teaching, learning and research, and by extension its members to the global research and education network community”.

He commended GARNET for its projects and services such as the EDUROAM project, and their effort in building capacity of ICT professionals for member institutions, as well as their collaboration with the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH), to ensure seamless access in providing world class scholarly electronic information resources to support teaching, learning and research. He urged GARNET to deliberate on the successes and achievements, and above all the challenges facing the organisation. “I am very optimistic that as ICT professionals who are trained to provide solutions, you will leave this meeting with solutions to most of the daunting challenges that face GARNET”. This he said, will make the organisation stronger.

He also urged them to support the less endowed members of the Network and provide leadership and direction in ICT policy making and implementation. 

The Chairman of GARNET, Prof. C.N.B Tagoe, expressed gratitude to the UCC Management for accepting to host GARNET.
