The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has been re-elected as a member of the governing Board of the Association of African Universities (AAU) for another four years.
The election, which took place during the ongoing 16th Quadrennial General Conference of the AAU in Rabat, Morocco, marks a significant step forward for the AAU.
Prof. Boampong's re-election is seen as a recognition of his strong leadership and diplomatic academic skills, particularly his commitment to playing a crucial role in advancing the interests of the AAU across the African continent.
As per its constitution, the AAU concluded a process of nominations and elections for the new Governing Board after the expiration of the old Board's tenure.
The new Governing Board is mandated to implement key decisions made by the AAU General Conference, which is the highest authority of the Association, responsible for determining its general policies and direction. The new Governing Board assumes office immediately.
The Association of African Universities is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization created by African Universities to promote cooperation among them on the one hand and between them and the international academic community on the other. Created in 1967, the AAU is the voice of higher education in Africa.
