The Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has held an interactive session with alumni of the University in Washington DC in the United States of America.

The meeting, convened under the auspices of the Institutional Advancement Office-UCC, was aimed at reconnecting and strengthening the linkages between the University and its alumni.

The Vice-Chancellor announced at the meeting measures adopted to lessen the plight of alumni living abroad in their quest to acquire essential documents from the University.

To this end, he indicated the creation of the ‘Help Service Desk’ by the Institutional Advancement Office and the Directorate of Academic Affairs to assist alumni in the acquisition of transcripts, attestation letters, amongst other vital documents until the online application system was ready.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was rapturously welcomed, seized the opportunity to invite them to the International UCC Home Coming Days which have been slated for 26th to 28th of September, 2022.

Accordingly, he called for the support of the alumni to embark on the various fund raising activities branded as ‘60 @ 60 contributions, lay a brick’ and other individual sponsorship events towards the legacy project- the building of the Biomedical and Clinical Research Laboratory for UCC.

“The Biomedical and Clinical Research Center would undertake medically related research of the western corridors of the country” Prof. Boampong added.

He told the gathering that plans were far advanced to launch the Design Thinking and Innovative Hub (D-Hub) on April 5 this year.

The facility, Prof. Boampong explained, would provide students the opportunity to experience practical entrepreneurial training. He stressed his desire to see inculcated in students of UCC an entrepreneurial mindset to address the problems associated with graduate unemployment, job creation and economic growth.

Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the enviable successes chalked by the University, mentioning the recent Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which saw UCC place first in Ghana and West Africa, as well as being adjudged the first University in terms research influence globally, amongst others.

During the two-hour interactive session, alumni were also given the chance to ask questions that bothered them on the operations of the University.

The alumni, adorned in UCC paraphernalia, were enthused by the platform afforded them to get their voices heard towards pushing the holistic growth of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor is scheduled to meet dozens more of UCC alumni at Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday April 3.
