A Digital Club has been inaugurated at the University of Cape Coast as part of the EU-PACT for Skills Project supported by the European Union.

The club aims to encourage digital literacy among students, help members develop skills relevant to the fast-changing digital world, and promote a strong reading culture.

In his opening remarks, the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies (CHLS), Prof. Daniel Agyapong, noted that the establishment of the club formed part of efforts to strengthen digital skills development among students under the project.

Prof. Agyapong who is also the Project Lead indicated that the idea of forming a digital club was discussed during his recent visit to China, where Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Kojo Bonsu, encouraged the University to create a platform to help students improve their digital competencies.

He stated that the club was expected to provide members with opportunities to develop practical digital skills to support their academic work and prepare them for the demands of the modern technology-driven environment.

The Provost of CHLS also introduced the interim executives who will steer its affairs pending the formalization of its structure.

The interim executives include Dr. Osman Light – Patron, Deborah Gyamfuah – Patron, Gerald Osei Anane – President and Weiba Ghansah – Vice President

The rest include Evelyn Yaaba Arthur – Organizer, Miziram Madai Essaw – Secretary and Mary Apprey – Treasurer.

He congratulated the interim executives and encouraged them to work together to ensure the effective running of the club.

The Coordinator for the project, Dr. Alex Boadi Dankyi, led the digital launch and mobilisation of membership for the club.

Other key members of the project who were present at the inauguration included Prof. Gloria K. Agyapong, Dr. Dorothy Amfo-Antiri, Dr. Daniel Ofori, Dr. Akua Tiwaa Buabeng-Boateng, Dr. Kwame Ofori, and Dr. Osman Light.
