An orientation programme has been held for fresh students admitted to the Agona Nyakrom campus of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for the 2024/2025 academic year. 

The satellite campus is hosting the pioneering cohort of freshers comprising students enrolled in the B.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Nutrition programmes.

Addressing the students, the Provost of the College of Distance Education (CoDE). Prof. Anokye Mohammed Adam, congratulated them on their admission to UCC.

 He commended them for their decision to pursue further studies at the "University of Competitive Choice." 

“You should be proud as students of the top-ranked university in Ghana, West Africa, and among the top 10 in Africa,” he stated.

Prof. Adam explained that the expansion of UCC’s campus to other parts of the country was to increase the admission of qualified students to various programmes.

 He noted that the main campus in Cape Coast could not accommodate the growing number of applicants hence the decision to admit them to the satellite campuses.

Prof. Adam indicated that the Agona Nyakrom campus had the best of facilities for academic work. “Our state-of-the-art campus here boasts all the facilities necessary to make your studies conducive,” he assured them.

He said security at the campus has been enhanced to give students and staff maximum protection. “Our campus is fenced, ensuring your safety. All we ask is for you to be disciplined and committed to your studies,” he added.

The Provost of CoDE stressed UCC's reputation for academic excellence and urged the students to strive diligently in their academic work. He informed them that lecturers from the main campus would be teaching them at Agona Nyakrom campus.

The Director of Agona Nyakrom Campus, Prof. Isaac Buabeng, assured the students of receiving all necessary support to aid their academic progress.

He advised them to respect the University’s rules and regulations for a harmonious campus life and emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness to preserve the campus’s natural beauty.

The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Prof. Jerry Ninnoni, advised the nursing students to uphold high standards of discipline as they go through training to become professional nurses. 

He underlined the importance of virtues such as integrity, respect, and compassion in their training. “We aim to produce well-trained nurses who can save lives,” he said.

Prof. Ninnoni mentioned that their studies would involve both theory and clinical placements at health facilities in neighbouring communities.

The Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Prof. Christiana Naa Atsreh Nsiah-Asamoah, discussed the job prospects for nutrition students and encouraged them to set goals and remain committed to achieving them post-graduation.

Heads of Department, registration officers, and other university officials provided the students with essential information to help them navigate academic challenges and manage their social lives on campus.
