A 10-member delegation of the UCC@60 Anniversary Planning Committee led by the Chairman, Prof. L. K. Sam Amoah has paid a courtesy call on the Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Sir (Dr). Sam Esson Jonah, at his office in Accra.
The Chairman informed the Chancellor that the Committee was in Accra to brief him on preparations towards the celebrations and the progress made so far.
He also took the opportunity to solicit the Chancellor’s inputs and support to ensure a successful celebrations.
The Chairman informed the Chancellor that after careful deliberations, the Committee had adopted *"60 years of Quality Higher Education: Expanding the Frontiers" as the theme for the anniversary.
He further outlined the inauguration of the Planning Committee and sub-Committees, and the adoption of a Logo as some of the key successes chocked so far. Prof. Sam-Amoah hinted that the official launch of the anniversary had been slated for mid-April and that the date would be sent to the Chancellor as soon as it was confirmed.
The Chairperson presented the Chancellor with a copy of the proposed plan of activities for the celebrations for his perusal.
In his response, the Chancellor expressed his excitement that the University had chocked 60 years and also at the impending celebrations.
He reiterated the importance of anniversary celebrations as avenues for showcasing and sharing the ground-breaking achievements of institutions. He therefore charged the Committee to take the task seriously and work assiduously to deliver a successful celebration.
He advised the Committee to use the celebrations to build a comprehensive database of Alumni and leverage on that to solicit support from various year groups. He also recommended undertaking a project to commemorate the milestone the University has achieved.
The Chancellor welcomed the idea of a Chancellor's Day and requested for more details for him to make his inputs.
He was very confident that the Fund Raising Committee would be able to raise the required funds for the celebrations. He tasked the Committee to adopt innovative ways to raise the needed funds for the celebrations.
