An Associate Professor of Bee Mediated Pollination and Ecology, Prof. Rofela Combey, has assumed office as the fourth Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (CANS) of the University of Cape Coast.

She took over from Prof. Moses Jojo Eghan, whose six-year tenure ended on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

With her appointment, she has made history as the first woman to lead the College.

Her tenure, renewable, began on August 1, 2025, and expires on July 31, 2027.

At a brief handover ceremony, Prof. Combey said that during her tenure, she would advance CANS as an educational hub of high academic repute, globally ranked as high in quality interdisciplinary, transformative teaching, innovative research, and strategic partnership.

She said she would be guided by five principles - collaboration, communication, culture of shared accountability for set goals, competence, and strive for excellence.

“I recognise the trust placed in me and pledge to work tirelessly to advance the mission of CANS. This administration looks forward to collaborating with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and our well-wishers to shape the future of our academic community,” she added.

Prof. Combey pledged to promote an atmosphere of college work to strengthen the schools, management and other stakeholders while ensuring that deliverables are effectively and efficiently discharged.

She used the occasion to hail the immediate past provost, Prof. Moses Eghan, for his leadership and the successes chalked up over the years.

In his farewell remarks, Prof. Eghan thanked the Almighty God who entrusted him with the leadership of the College and the ability to see off his tenure successfully.

He described the past six years as “extremely intense,” which nevertheless allowed him the opportunity to contribute towards the growth of CANS.

Prof. Eghan congratulated Prof. Combey on her appointment and wished her the utmost best during her tenure.

The ceremony was chaired by the first Provost of CANS, Prof. Samuel Yeboah Mensah.
