The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has received a consignment of books and some projectors from Prof. Nelson Kofie of the Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia, United States of America.

In addition to this, Prof. Kofie has donated books and other teaching materials valued at $ 60, 000 to the University Library and some departments in UCC in 2018.

Presenting the materials to the Department, Prof. Kofie said the donation was his contribution towards enhancing teaching, learning and research in the University. He noted that the consignment included books in various disciplines in the humanities and sciences. He was hopeful that the books would be of immense benefit to lecturers and students of the University.

The Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. F. Amuquandoh, thanked Prof. Kofie for the gesture and praised him for his willingness to sacrifice for the country in general and UCC in particular. He said Prof. Kofie has made several donations over the years, saying “This is not the first time that we are receiving these books and other teaching materials from this patriotic Ghanaian who is contributing significantly to promote Higher Education in the nation”. He said Prof. Kofie always paysfor the shipping of the materials so that the University would not be burdened with additional cost in clearing the donated items.

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences said Prof. Kofie has not only been donating to the University but also lectures during the Sandwich period. “Though we don’t provide him accommodation and office space yet he’s ever ready to give off his best,” he noted. Prof. Amuquandoh said the books would help the department to update its library with current reading list in various subject areas.

On his part, the head of Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Dr. Williams Boateng, called on students of the Department who were present at the function to emulate the generosity of Prof. Kofie by giving back to their alma mater. “Prof. Kofie has shown the way so you should also remember to use your networks to help the Department that has made you who you are,” he implored. He said the Department would show its appreciation to Prof. Kofie during the 2018 Sandwich Annual Conference to be held on August 2, 2018.
