A delegation from Ghana Libyan Arab Holding Limited (GLAHCO) has expressed interest in constructing student hostel facilities at University of Cape Coast (UCC) to help address accommodation challenges on campus.

The delegation, led by the Head of Projects and Developments at GLAHCO, Mr. Eric Atta Sonno, explained that the company’s Real Estate Unit invests in hostels, hotels, and other real estate developments. As part of its expansion plans, the company is seeking to partner with UCC to construct an on-campus hostel facility with a capacity of about 2,000 beds.

Receiving the delegation, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto, welcomed the proposal and indicated the university’s readiness to collaborate with GLAHCO. He acknowledged that UCC currently faces significant student accommodation challenges, noting that the university is only able to house a limited number of students in its residential facilities.

As a result, many students are compelled to seek accommodation in nearby communities, where living conditions are sometimes not conducive to effective learning.

Prof. Aheto also encouraged the delegation to consider exploring additional investment opportunities within the university, including the construction of lecture halls and food courts, as well as strategic investments in the School of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Pharmacy, and engineering-related infrastructure.

He further assured the delegation that the university would provide the necessary support and facilitation to enable GLAHCO to successfully undertake the proposed hostel development project.

Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye Esq.,  the Acting Director of Finance, George Amfo-Antiri,  the Director of Directorate of Physical Development and Estate Management (DPDEM) , Mr. Philip Ntim Owusu, as well as Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Alfred Ghartey.

The GLAHCO delegation was made up of the Head of Finance, Mr. Nigel Akrong, and other staff members.
