Faculty of Arts Holds Dean’s Awards

The Faculty of Arts of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has held its Dean's Award Ceremony, honouring remarkable achievements of its top students.

The efforts of these students, from levels 200 to 400, who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.6 or above, were acknowledged with the presentation of certificates.

In all, one hundred and thirty (130) students were celebrated for their academic feats.

In a keynote speech, a former Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. D.D. Kuupole congratulated the awardees for their exceptional performance.

He implored them not to be complacent but to work hard to remain on the Dean’s Award.

He said the Arts served as a mirror of society, reflecting values, challenging ideas, and opening pathways to innovation and service.

“By equipping our students with tools to think critically, communicate meaningfully, and innovate responsibly. The Arts remain essential to human progress,” he continued.

He said in an increasingly polarized world, the Arts will remain essential for dialogue, peace-building, and a democratic environment.

Prof. Kuupole called on students to embrace continuous learning, acquire multi-disciplinary skills, and position themselves strategically for opportunities in the rapidly evolving global economy driven by technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

He stressed the importance of relevance, resilience, and adaptability in today’s competitive workplace. According to him, young people must intentionally make a meaningful impact wherever they find themselves.

“Bear in mind, if your presence is not felt, your absence will not be missed. You’ve got to make it count when it counts,” he said.

In his address, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo-Kantanka, explained that the purpose of the ceremony was to celebrate the remarkable achievement, dedication, and perseverance of students who have worked hard in their academic journey to set themselves apart as exemplary scholars by attaining First Class Honours.

He emphasised the importance of the humanities in cultivating critical thinking, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the human experience.

The chairman of the ceremony, the Registrar of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Mr. Ebenezer Aggrey, congratulated the faculty for their dedication to training highly qualified human resources for the country.

He encouraged the awardees to maintain their focus and determination to complete their programmes successfully.

"If you want to add value to your achievement, be focused and determined", he advised.
