The Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the School of Biological Sciences, University of Cape Coast (UCC), has bid farewell to esteemed Fulbright Scholar, Prof. Jennifer Rhode Ward, who made significant contributions to the department during her period of service.

Prof. Ward, who is a Professor of Biology at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, U.S.A, joined the Department of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology at UCC in December 2023 as part of her Fulbright scholarship. Throughout her stay, she demonstrated a strong commitment to shaping young talents through her excellent teaching and mentorship.

"Prof. Ward's energetic and engaging approach to delivering lectures won her deserving commendations from all students and staff," the head of the department, Dr. Daniel Sakyi Agyirifo, said.

He added, "She was truly an asset to our department and made a lasting impact on our students and programmes."

Dr. Agyirifo further remarked that Prof. Ward's contributions to the department were invaluable.

“Her expertise, enthusiasm, and dedication to nurturing the next generation of scientists have left a lasting impression on our faculty and students. We are grateful for her time with us and wish her all the best in her future endeavours", he concluded. 

During her time at UCC, Prof. Ward contributed immensely to shaping the work of the School of Biological Sciences. She engaged in curriculum review efforts, helped with the restructuring of the Animal House, and developed and led professional development workshops on “Grant Writing and Innovative Life Science Pedagogies.”

As a gesture of appreciation, Prof. Ward donated a set of books and a Thermal Cycler to the department.

In a brief presentation, she expressed her gratitude to the department and the students for the warm welcome and the opportunity to contribute to their academic and professional growth.
