Consolidated Bank Ghana Explores Areas of Collaboration with UCC                                                    

Five officials from the Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) have called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, to explore possible areas of collaboration with the University.                                                                                    

The leader of the delegation, Mr Hayford Danso, said the visit was to introduce the newly-established bank by the Government of Ghana to the University Management. He explained that uniBank which used to transact business with the University had now been merged together with other four banks to form CBG. He said the five banks had problems with liquidity and were struggling to survive hence; the government took over their assets and liabilities to protect savings of their customers.  “The Government of Ghana owns 100% shares of the Bank,” he noted.

 Assurance of Strong Collaboration

 Mr Danso who is also the Head of Unit of Non-Governmental Organisations and Development Organisations of CBG said they were aware of the strong collaboration between the defunct uniBank and UCC and assured the Vice-Chancellor that CBG was committed to enhancing the partnership.  He told the Vice-Chancellor that the Bank was willing to address the University’s concerns regarding their services and relationship. “We have supported some institutions and we will do same if you let us know areas we can be of help to you,” he indicated.

Mr Danso was accompanied by Patrick Komla Yevu and Richard Kwaku Gyasi from CBG Headquarters, Accra. Others were the Branch Manager of CBG, Cape Coast, Mr Eugene Amoah and Mr. David Boakye from Cape Coast Branch.

UCC is Ready to Collaborate with CBG

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the officials and indicated the University’s readiness to accord CBG the necessary courtesies that were granted to uniBank. “uniBank has supported us in so many ways so we also expect that CBG which is much bigger will do better in terms of “Corporate Social Responsibility,” he requested.

Prof. Ampiah said Management of the University would study the proposals CBG had submitted and respond appropriately. “My expectation is that we all work towards enhancing and sustaining this relationship to meet each partner’s interest.”

Present at the meeting were, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dora Edu-Buandoh and the Senior Assistant Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Georgina Asi Owusu.
