A delegation from the Education Department of Hunan Province in China has been treated to tasty doses of both Chinese and Ghanaian traditional performances at the 2023 Chinese Cultural Week celebration. The event was hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CI-UCC).

The celebration was to honour the high-powered delegation from the Education Department of Hunan Province, led by Prof. Wang Jianhua, the Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Department of Education. It was also to amplify the objective of projecting Chinese values through arts.

Pupils of the UCC Basic School also performed and treated the delegation to pulsating rendition of Chinese songs prompting some members of the delegation to sing along.

The Hunan City University President, Prof. He Zhen, said he was amazed by the extent to which young people in Ghana had embraced the Chinese culture especially the language, dance and music.

He added that Hunan City University had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UCC establishing an internship partnership between the two institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, in a short remark, observed that the MoU with Hunan City University "represents an incredible opportunity for UCC students to gain valuable international exposure and enrich their educational journey".

He recounted the long-standing relationship between the two universities resulting in the establishment of the Confucius Institute at UCC.

The Chinese Director at the CI-UCC, Prof. Ou Yamei, in her address, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Enterprises in Ghana for their support to the Confucius Institute at UCC.
