CES-UCC Gives GH¢56,000 to Cape Coast Presby Junior High School

The College of Education Studies (CES) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has presented a cheque for GH¢56,000 to the Cape Coast Presby Junior High School.

The amount has been earmarked for the re-roofing and renovation of some classrooms that have developed visible cracks and are currently in a deplorable condition and unsuitable for effective teaching and learning.

Cape Coast Presby Junior High School is one of the about 20 basic schools adopted by the College of Education Studies to receive its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving educational quality in local basic schools.

Presenting the cheque, the Provost of the College of Education Studies, Prof. Douglas Darko Agyei, said the gesture formed part of the College’s commitment to improving education and ensuring that pupils of Cape Coast Presby Junior High School study in a safe and conducive environment.

He said the leakages in the roofing sheets were disturbing and posed a serious risk to both pupils and teachers.

According to him, such an environment does not support quality teaching and learning and requires urgent attention.

The provost expressed optimism that the renovation would restore dignity to the school and provide pupils with a befitting atmosphere to pursue their academic goals.

He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and strive to become responsible leaders in the future, while expressing gratitude to the teachers for weathering the storm to support the students.

The Headteacher of the Cape Coast Presby Junior High School, Madam Vivian Boadu, expressed appreciation to the College for the timely intervention.

She disclosed that the weak roofing sheets made teaching and learning extremely difficult, particularly during torrential rainfall.

Madam Boadu noted that the re-roofing would significantly improve infrastructure and enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

As part of the event, a seven-member committee – made up of the staff of CES and Cape Coast Presby Junior High School – was inaugurated to ensure that the renovation work was executed expeditiously.
