ADB Explores Partnership Opportunities with UCC

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received a delegation from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and explore strategic development opportunities between the two institutions.

The delegation, led by Prof. Ferdinand Ahiakpor, Deputy Managing Director of ADB, paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UCC to discuss areas of mutual interest and potential support for the University’s growth and development.

A key area of discussion was the modernization of the UCC Hospital. The ADB delegation expressed interest in supporting the project, noting that an upgraded facility would not only enhance healthcare delivery for the University community but also serve the healthcare needs of ADB staff.

Prof. Ahiakpor indicated that the Bank was aware of the accommodation challenges confronting the University and expressed its willingness to support the provision of hostel facilities to help address the growing demand for student housing. He noted that such an intervention would significantly improve student welfare and the overall learning environment.

He further noted that, as a bank with a strong focus on the agricultural sector, ADB would engage the UCC School of Agriculture to better understand its needs and identify potential areas of support. He also expressed the Bank’s interest in utilising UCC’s facilities for staff training and human resource development as part of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration.

Prof. Ahiakpor added that the Bank had, over the years, collaborated with the School of Medical Sciences and expressed interest in providing sponsorship support for the School’s annual White Coat Ceremony.

Responding, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, expressed gratitude to ADB for its interest in supporting the University’s development agenda. He noted that modernization of UCC Hospital and the expansion of student accommodation facilities remained top priorities of the University.

Prof. Aheto appealed to the Bank to also consider supporting the establishment of the College of Engineering and Built Environment as well as a School of Dentistry. He further outlined plans by the University to develop an e-Campus for selected programmes and called for partnership in realising this vision.

He assured the delegation of UCC’s continued commitment to strengthening collaboration with ADB to advance educational development and institutional excellence.

The Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., on his part, highlighted the University’s energy challenges and appealed to ADB for support in providing solar power infrastructure to improve electricity supply across campus.
